About Us

Kacey Brasnett is one of two parts that makes up Happy Hippie Quilting.  Following in the footprints of her Momma, she has been an avid sewer for the majority of her life.  She has always had a passion for quilting. Kacey’s mom would drag her along to all of the classes she would teach, as well as attend herself. One of her favourite memories of her childhood was attending quilt shows where alongside her mother she would watch with much anticipation the Macphee (a pattern company) fashion shows. They were constantly creating something new together and that love transferred to Kacey. She has successfully finished a few dozen quilts in the last few years. With those quilts she has been using her Moms longarm in preparation for opening her own business.

Then along came Jay, part two of the HHQ team. At an early age, Jay was heavily invested in cross stitch and plastic canvas crafts. When he was 15, his request for skate pants was refused so he set out to design a pattern and made his own. You know, to stick it to the proverbial man, well his Mom anyways. Since then, the sewing machine has been an important tool in his chest alongside his chainsaws, impact drivers, and routers. He has had a dream of having quilts to tell his stories...he also dreams of Skor Blizzards and Kacey, but not always in that order.

The name Happy Hippie Quilting was born when Jay was literally between homes without a place to live. When Miss S, one of our 7 combined children, affectionately referred to Jay as “the hippie that lives with us” and from there started the coined phrase in our home “the happy hippie”. These were the early days of dreaming of owning a longarm quilting business.  Something that they could do together and share in creating,  Jay and Kacey both have day jobs but being self employed lends itself to flexible scheduling allowing for some longarm action. They both look forward to helping you make memorable quilts to last a lifetime. However lets be honest, Kacey will be doing most of the quitling in this relationship.

Kacey and Jay live in High River, the heart of Southern Alberta. This is where they find so much joy in creating designs on beautiful, one of a kind pieces.  HHQ specializes in edge-to-edge pantographs, free motion, ruler work, and fully custom quilting. Both Kacey and Jay are excited to work with you and design one of a kind heirloom quilts for you! Contact us today to get your tops quilted!
